Artist Statement: E-Waste

Pertains to the work in the first gallery "eWaste", below.

The exponential rate in the growth of technology is causing significant effects on our society, culture, and environment. We are encouraged to purchase the newer, slimmer, faster gadget, which almost immediately becomes outdated. But do we ever stop to think where this detritus ends up after disposal?

Even for the environmentally conscious who recycle their devices responsibly, it is shocking to learn that many recycling facilities simply can't keep up with the disposal rate. Therefore most of our electronic trash ends up in third world countries, where they it are dismantled in environmentally hazardous conditions...

As we become more dependent on technology, how will our behavior change? It is intriguing, yet terrifying, to think that this detritus will some day be merged into the earth, serving as archeological representations of our times.
